Well, in Arabic, there are masculine nouns and feminine nouns – like in French. When I say ‘noun’ – I generally mean those nouns we can feel and touch. As for now, we will concentrate on the masculine nouns. The Arabic learner should understand that masculine nouns are those that do not end in a letter called ‘taa’ marbutah’ (closed taa’) ة / ـة There are two main words used as demonstrative pronouns for the male noun to express the meanings of 'this is' and 'that is' This is: هذا (haadtha) (Close by) That is: ذلك (thaalika) (Further away) There is also: That is: ذاك (thaaka) (Middle distance) The Arabic learner should understand that:
