Where are you from?
We ask 'where are you from' by saying: من أين أنتِ؟ - min aina anti? (f) من أين أنتَ؟ - min aina anta? (m) Where have you come from? Otherwise - one might ask: Where have you come from? من أين آتيتِ؟ - min aina aatayti? (f) من أين آتيتِ؟ - min aina aatayta? (m) I am from... Here are two examples of what one may answer... أنا من مدينة لندن - Anaa min madinat London I am from the city of London أنا من فرنسا - Anaa min Fransaa I am from France Happy Days... How are you? كيف حالك اليوم؟ Kaifa 7aaluka Alyawm (m) Kaifa 7aaluki Alyawm (f) One could say: I am very well, thanks. جَيِّدٌ جِدًا، شُكْرًا جَيِّدةٌ جِدًا، شُكْرًا Anaa jayyidun jiddan, shukran. (m) Anaa jayyidatun jiddan, shukran. (f) I am fine, thanks to God. أَنَا بِخَيْرٍ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّه Anaa bekhayr. Wa Alhamdulillaah. If one is to ask the other how they are - they can use the following phrases... كيف حالكَ؟ / كيف حالكِ؟ kaifa 7aalu-ka / kaifa 7aalu-ki Here's a breakdown for those who need it: كيف - kaifa - how حال - 7aalu - condition َﻛ - ka - yours (when addressing a male) ِﻛ - ki - yours (when addressing a female) Note: that the extension 'ka' is used to address a male and 'ki' is used to address a female. Also, one can say to both males and females alike: كيف الأحوال؟ Kaif al-a7waal - which literally means 'how are the conditions?' 'a7waal' الأحوال is plural for '7aal' حال You can add the word 'today' اليوم (alyawma) to the end of the phrase .
