Basic Arabic Vocabulary… Getting started with single words
The following – to start you off – are 12 nouns. I have written the Arabic text and the phonetic English. Notice how each word ends in ‘un.’ This is a grammatical vowel sign called a ‘tanween’. You may see it like this ٌ or ُُ ُ. There are three types of tanween, and this is the main type. The tanween usually tells us that the noun is indefinite. ‘Desk’ would instead be ‘a desk’ and not ‘the desk.’ This is another topic as a whole.
